How West Bengal DA Is Calculated
Dearness Allowance compensates government employees for rising prices. Under the 7th Pay Commission formula used by the Centre, DA is a percentage of basic pay linked to the AICPI-IW inflation index. The calculation is simple: DA = Basic Pay × DA% ÷ 100. HRA works the same way, using the percentage that applies to your area.
West Bengal employees are paid under the state's own pay structure (ROPA 2019) rather than the central pay matrix, and the state government fixes its own DA rate. The state rate has remained far below the central rate, which is why a separate West Bengal DA calculator is useful. Use the basic pay shown on your payslip, then choose 14%, 18%, 22% or enter the latest rate from the state Finance Department order.
Example
With a basic pay of ₹35,400 and DA at 18%, DA is ₹6,372. At 10% HRA, HRA is ₹3,540, so gross pay is ₹45,312. The gap box above compares your DA with the central rate of 60% used on this site, showing what the difference is worth each month and year.
